Air Quality Alert Extended as Smoke from Fire Affects Calgary

Apartment Building Fire in Calgary's Southeast Displaces Residents

Calgary, AB - Three people have died in a fire that destroyed a shed outside a hardware store in Calgary's northwest on Monday night. The fire, which broke out shortly before 11 p.m. at the Rona store on 14 Street and 100 Avenue NW, quickly engulfed the structure and spread to a nearby vehicle.

Fire crews arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the blaze, but not before it had claimed the lives of three individuals who had been inside the shed. The victims have not yet been identified.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it does not appear to be suspicious. An air quality alert has been extended to cover the city of Calgary as smoke from the fire continues to linger in the area. Residents are advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed.

In a separate incident, a fire tore through an apartment building on Deer Run Boulevard in southeast Calgary on Monday night. The fire, which started on the third floor of the building, quickly spread to the upper floors, forcing residents to evacuate.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the third and fourth floors, but the building sustained significant damage. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the apartment building fire is also under investigation.
